Durham Dragons Athletics was founded in 2001 by coach Dale Lapham. Since that time the club has gone on to win multiple Provincial and National Team Championships in Cross Country and Track across various age groups.

The Dragons have also had numerous individual provincial and national medalists in track and field, and have had many athletes compete for Canada at International Competitions such as FISU (World Universiade) XC/Track, World XC, Francophone Games, World Junior XC/Track, World Youth Championships, NACAC XC, and Commonwealth Youth Championships.

In addition to national teams, many athletes have gone on to have successful post-secondary careers at both the U-Sports, CCAA and NCAA level.
